The hospital and the department
As of 1 July 2026, the Department of Surgery in Aruba and UO AZV are seeking an enthusiastic surgeon to succeed a departing colleague, with a focus on innovative care and high-quality treatment. The department comprises seven surgeons and offers the full breadth of the specialty, spread across several hospital departments.
GI-ONCO surgery encompasses complex oncological procedures (minimally invasive colorectal and gastric carcinomas, bariatric surgery), proctology, breast surgery and lung surgery (including VATS). Within vascular surgery, the emphasis is on complex diabetic wound care through our Center for Advanced Wound Care (CAWC), peripheral endovascular interventions (in collaboration with radiology) and shunt surgery. The department also provides trauma care in close cooperation with orthopedics. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for complex wounds and infections will soon be added.
Position description
We are looking for a surgeon specialized in GI-ONCO surgery, including breast surgery. Other profiles or sub-specialties (such as vascular surgery or trauma surgery) are also welcome subject to mutual fit. The department shares collective responsibility for general surgery, including participation in on-call duties, and offers room to further develop your own area of focus. In addition to (out)patient clinical work, you will participate in departmental meetings, teach junior doctors, physician assistants, medical students and nursing staff, and collaborate closely with colleagues outside the department.
What we ask
- A surgeon registered with BIG and RGS, or international equivalent
- A team player who promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills and a patient-centered approach.
- A sense of responsibility for quality, results and clear communication.
- Proactive, accurate and flexible; able to set priorities and work in a solution-oriented manner.
- Excellent command of Dutch and English is required; command of Papiamento and Spanish is a plus.
Terms of employment
The appointment is as a surgeon in independent practice with a contract with health insurer UO AZV under the prevailing terms. The Department of Surgery operates its practice jointly in the form of a partnership (maatschap). A period of working as a locum surgeon, prior to definitive admission to the partnership, is among the possibilities.
